Adding custom worlds to your Minecraft server

Welcome to Something!

Most randomly generated worlds on Minecraft are great for survival or creative, but sometimes you want to add a custom map for your server!

In this tutorial you will learn how to upload and use your own custom map for your own Minecraft server!

In this guide we are going to use an SFTP client, we recommend checking out this tutorial to learn how to connect to your service!

Step 1

We need to connect to our service and go to the root folder

An ordinary Spigot server data set

Step 2

Upload your custom world on the ROOT folder (/)

We recommend to stop your service before uploading a world that replaces the pre-generated world.

In our example, our new world is "custom_world"

Example world named "custom_world"

Step 3

Now we need to change our server properties file in order for Minecraft to use that world! To do that, simply right click on the server.properties file, hover on Edit and click on Edit

Server properties file modification with WinSCP internal editor

Now find the value level-name= and change it from nothing or world to custom_world

Changing the level-type property to our own world

Save the file by clicking the floppy disk icon on the top left and you are done!

Saving our file new server properties in WinSCP

Congratulations!

You have successfully uploaded a custom world on your server and your server will now use this world!

Please note, you need to restart your server for this process to apply.
